Welcome to the site of Lostwithiel's Tourist Information Centre.
Lostwithiel in Cornwall is a hidden treasure, tucked away in the River Fowey valley, obscured by richly wooded hills, between the A390 and the upper tidal reaches of the river.
John Betjeman is reputed to have said “There is history in every stone in Lostwithiel”. The Black Prince called Lostwithiel "The fairest of all small cities". Truly metropolitan yet retaining all the features of rural excellence, Lostwithiel is a treat not to be missed. Once the Duchy Capital, this small town has a character all it’s own, proud of its heritage, independent, yet friendly and happy to share its many charms.
Lostwithiel is the antiques and 'slow food' centre of the Duchy. Its shops, fairs, markets, auctions and restaurants draw people from far and wide. Here, one can browse at leisure for paintings, ceramics, lace, jewellery and old books, local food produce and enjoy the excellent food in the hotels, inns and award winning restaurants and cafes.
One can stroll through the riverside parks and picnic by the water’s edge or fish for salmon, trout, sea bass or flounder on the most beautiful and unspoilt river in Cornwall, or even just stay awhile and watch the abundant life of this town and its unique river environment.
There are delightful walks, cycling and kayaking to be had in the surrounding countryside. Restormel Castle, with its fascinating history and wonderful views is only one mile to the north. We are right on the doorstep of the Eden Project, the eighth wonder of the world.
This beautiful valley is a doorway to the unspoilt enjoyment of nature. For the more energetic there is a splendid golf course, with swimming pool, tennis courts and a gym, while squash, badminton, table tennis and dancing can be enjoyed at the Community Centre.
There are guided walks through this ancient town, steeped in history and heritage, starting from the Tourist Information Centre once a week through the summer season.
